Transformation Tuesday

When I began this process, I didn't know which "Type" I belonged to. So I tried out Type 1 and then Type 4. The photo on the left is part of that journey, from January 13.

Over the weekend, I bleached my skirt and my jacket, so this is a fitting transformation Tuesday, since not only have *I* changed, but so have these items of clothing.

No makeup or jewelry in today's photo, but you can see the finished result here!

May's Greatest Hits!

Memorial Day

Without kids, my husband and I went out to dinner. I got a bug in my Bonnet that I wanted a romper, despite earlier fears that shorts girls would look frumpy, and snagged this at Marshalls.

I wasn't happy about strapless, but I think it looks great.

Special appearance by my formerly black Lauren Conrad blazer.

Bleach!

So if something has natural fiber and is black, you can bleach it to a sometimes surprising color. Mine turned similar colors, but I hear it can go different ways!

I wet everything in the tub. Used the shower head to both warm the water and then wet everything well. Fill tub to cover clothing with hot water then estimated a cup of bleach. I added some water I boiled on the stove and swirled the clothes a few times. I let it sit maybe 20 minutes? Washed as regular with some white towels and pillowcases (pink eye, so figured bleach a good idea!)

I'm so thrilled with how the blazer turned out. I didn't think it would go at all!

Here's where you'll see me get frustrated. I'm off today, so why am I so dressed up? I just a tee or tank and shorts. On what's forecast to be a hot day, these ruffles are surely going to drive me crazy in my un-airconditioned house.

 Forgive the "it's cold in my house and I can't find my slippers" white socks.

I bought this dress from the StitchFix BST board and it is just amazing. It's a perfect color, and it fits me like a dream. It has a tiny textured detailing all over it. It does feel a little short for me, and I have to be mindful of the back when I bend over, but otherwise it's just great!

I've been itching to buy some Lu La Roe, and finally found one that suggested my type. It's not something I'd ever have considered before this journey, but definitely one I loved as soon as I saw it.

I tend to shy away from patterns, but am trying to embrace it now.

It's a Friday in May. In teacher speak, that means that I'm exhausted and always running late. I didn't feel like putting on makeup...

But when I got to work, I changed into denim. I knew I would feel uncomfortable in the sandals, since I have unpainted toenails (old standards die hard). They were very comfortable while I wore them around the house, though!

Is the peach sweater a keeper? Or is it too bright for me?

Well, today's outfit evolved....

I started with the plan of wearing my maxi dress, paired with pink cardigan.

Then I heard the rain and nixed the maxi.

Then I seriously questioned this sweater and started fresh...

And I haven't worn the jacket all day.

One of the big sellers of DYT for me was the idea that I would spend less on clothing. After all, my type thrives on practicality and are often on the "cheap" side of things. I need to find actual dollar value.

I used to walk into the thrift store and never find anything. I still find this with pants, having a sort of unusual size. But since discovering my correct type, I find great items so easily, like this Jennifer Lopez (from Kohls) top in perfect condition. It's very sheer, so I probably would not have picked it for work before, but I loved it and wanted to wear it and it passed the "is this ok for work" test with my generally more conservative about these things husband.

This may be the outfit that has received the most instagram comments of all my outfits ever.

The founder of DYT, Carol Tuttle, often speaks about "Beauty Sixth Sense," which is our sense of style pushing us in the direction of our type before we're even aware of what that type is.

This top may be one of the oldest items in my closet. I know for sure I have had it before I was pregnant with my 6 year old son, and maybe even before then. It fits well, doesn't seem dated (at least not to me) and is a perfect show of my type of beauty.

I never know what to wear with it as a necklace; I feel like it needs SOMETHING, but the beaded neckline makes that difficult. I went with something a little longer and daintier than normal.

I've worn this tank before, and it's another find from the thrift store. Never would have considered it before, but it looks so great on me! I posted another picture on facebook with my son, and received a bunch of compliments about how pretty I look.

What a find at the thrift store. I love everything about this top, it's got a great color, it has these awesome flippy layer things, and it is a perfect weight. It looks great, and is from the thrift store. What could be better?
