Hair, updated

I've been obsessed with my hair lately. Not really in a "wow, my hair is so awesome" obsessed way, but in a "I can't figure out what to do next" way. I have been admiring short hair for a few months, and I'm pretty sure I'm really just a short hair kinda girl, but I really love being able to toss my hair up in a pony, and I'm digging the tossing it over my shoulder thing too.

If you've ever tried to grow out a pixie, you know it can be a miserable experience. #firstworldproblems much? Yes.

I documented my journey, part 1 and part 2.

When this Timehop picture turned up today, I figured it was fitting to update with a November 2014.

So, without futher adieu, here's the November 2014 update. From super short pixie to below the collar in 2 years:
This photo was really taken in October, but so close to the end of the month that it totally counts as November.

Growing out the Pixie, Part 2

In October I decided to document my journey from pixie to below the shoulders.  This is the picture of the haircut after which I decided I was going to start growing out, in April 2013:

Here's the next 6 months worth of progress, after the first sixits 5th end of March 2014:months documented here.

November 2013:
I had just gotten my haircut by a new stylist, who suggested the side bang.  I really liked it!
Here's my haircut as of November 7, about 7 months after the "I definitely decided to start growing out" picture, seen here:

December 2013:

I didn't get my hair cut at all in December, and it clearly looked scraggly, though I love the way it looks in the Christmas picture.

January 2014:
In January, I was starting to think about something new, and that I wouldn't make it to February as planned.  The doubt of should I just go short again is creeping in.

February 2014
I went to the same stylist in mid February as in November.  She was super excited about how great my hair is coming, and how much swing it has.

I'm now 4 weeks beyond that cut.  I admired my yoga instructor's French braid on Saturday and on Monday admired my coworker's short and choppy cut.  Another colleague said my hair is getting longer, and I agree...it FEELS longer and more swingy.  But it also feels flat and blah.  I'm back to headbands and clips often and am starting to get frustrated.  I'm heading into mullet territory again, so i'm considering a short bob to change things up and also get rid of some of the bottom length.  Photo taken February 14 (I've now been growing for 10 months.  It's frustrating, but I've also tried to keep it clean and not too straggly.)

It's funny how quickly this cut grew out.  Looking back, it looks so sleek and smooth on the haircut day but now looks so choppy and, well, scraggly.  I keep pulling on it, and playing with the rough ends.  If only I had skills with a blow dryer!

Now its the end of March 2014:

Growing out the damned pixie

I've been trying to grow out my pixie.  It has not been going very well.  I'm frustrated, feeling UGLY, and staring at short haired girls.  My hair has not been long in quite some time.

April 2010; not my most flattering shot ever.

And has varied in length since...
August 2010

It hung out in that bob for awhile in 2010 and 2011 until I chopped it all off sometime in July 2011:

I think this was one of the last times it was super short,

October 2012

For this cut, I went to a beauty school and said I wasn't sure if I wanted to grow it or stay short and the stylist said she was going to give me a pixie.  Ok.  But the idea to start the grow out process was there and this is starting to let it grow a little too.

So I let it go.

August 2013--I rocked that headband all summer.

Here's the cut I finally got at the end of the summer, after realizing it was in mullet territory for sure.  I definitely told the stylist I was trying to grow it out.

So here's where I'm at today:
October 2013

I wanted to change things up, so went for this side thing, but am typically wearing my hair bobby pinned like this:

In that August 2013 picture, I can see the bump that represents my shortest layer.  I think I'm going to ask for something like this next (and I am in need of a haircut already); fitting to link to Maybe Mathilda, who of course inspired this post.  She definitely had much faster progress than me!

Here's a style I loved, and it looks so great in the picture.  In my head, this is what I'm growing toward, but I really don't know what I want.  Advice?  Suggestions?  Which of my hairstyles over the past few years do you like best?
